We Are Here Now is Katia Zanutta – tender professional, social sustainability trailblazer and technical writer.

Intro
Katia has worked across Australian infrastructure, architecture, construction and clean energy for close to two decades.
Katia has led Public Private Partnership bids and high value tenders in the transport and clean energy sectors. She has also overseen social inclusion and impact activities, developing and implementing Social and Sustainable Procurement Framework and Plans, Reconciliation Action Plans, Workforce Development Plans, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and Gender Equality Action Plans.
Work
A career in working with people and words . . .
Katia started working with words way back in the late 90s as Editor of Melbourne dance music street press Zebra (Inpress) and was editorial assistant to Don Watson for his memoir on his time as speechwriter to Paul Keating ‘Recollections of a Bleeding Heart’, and Hilary McPhee for her memoir ‘Other People’s Words’.

Since 2005, Katia has held positions across Australia with a focus on ensuring business readiness to meet tender requirements and win work including bid management, tender writing and policy and plan development.
Katia has worked in the PPP space with Plenary Group, led a successful Feasibility Licence application for an offshore wind development, coordinated a winning tender for a Government public transport refranchise and worked with a number of architecture practices and Tier 1 construction and infrastructure contractors. Her recent work has focused on the clean energy sector including managing the successful bid for the Marinus Link Balance of Works and is now engaged by a global OEM focusing on the social licence requirements of the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme.

With a passion for social justice, Katia’s work in the social sustainability space includes:
Development of organisation-wide Environmental Sustainable Governance (ESG) Frameworks as well as project-specific Social Sustainability Plans.
Exploring initiatives to meet the social licence, local content, First Nations and workforce development requirements of the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme.
Working with King Uncle Jack Charles to recognise the profound Aboriginal heritage and significance of a specific site and create a plan to value the ongoing contribution of Aboriginal people and communities, and how this has a positive influence on us all. This Plan included engagement of an Aboriginal-owned and operated Victorian-based contractor who provide meaningful long-term economic independence and career opportunities for Aboriginal people and their communities, to create the Uncle Jack Charles Place of Belonging – a courtyard space to provide a lasting outcome.
Engagement of local artists and filmmakers for a Council project to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in establishing a very special mural to be enjoyed by community.
A partnership with Registered Charity Youth Projects to develop a direct skill development and employment model for disadvantaged young people.
A collaboration with Registered Charity I’m Still Learning to donate construction materials otherwise headed to landfill for use in their Basic Home Maintenance courses as well as arranging volunteers to input as Handy Persons/Instructors for the courses.
Development of Reconciliation Action Plans, and subsequent implementation through engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and heading up Working Groups.
